Google Complex turtix shutterstock
In a bid to keep its employees on campus for as long as possible, Google’s Mountain View headquarters offers a variety of perks, including free food, gym facilities, and dry cleaning. But according to Business Insider (which drew its sourcing from a Quora thread), some employees are using those perks to never leave the office. “[One] guy lived in the camper for 2-3 years. Showered at the gym. Did his laundry on campus. Ate every meal on campus he could,” wrote… continue…

What If America Isn’t Startup-Friendly After All?

America is a nation of startups—or that’s how the story goes, at least. But is it true? The Los Angeles Times offered up some stats about the current state of the nation’s startups, and the findings aren’t pretty: As reported by the newspaper, data from the U.S. Census Bureau suggests that the number of new startups fell 28 percent between 1977 and 2011. Park became a political target for his role in trying to fix the glitch-ridden Healthcare.gov website. He’s had his successes, though, including helping President Obama lure Google engineer Mikey Dickerson—who worked on the tech aspects of Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign… continue…

Why Silicon Valley’s ‘Attitude’ Isn’t Such a Bad Thing

Anti-Gentrification Party
In Silicon Valley they think differently, and if that leads to arrogance, so be it. At least that’s what Bloomberg Businessweek’s Joel Stein implies in his long meditation on the area’s outlook on technology, money and changing the world. For better or worse, technology is driving the area’s economy: Private pay and benefits are rising more quickly there than in any other major metropolitan area in the country, reports the Oakland Tribune. “The Bay Area has one of the strongest… continue…
