Autodesk Plans to Lay Off 90

Design software-maker Autodesk revealed plans for layoffs and restructuring during Tuesday’s “Investor Day” in San Francisco.

Autodesk LogoDuring questions and answers that followed nearly three hours of presentations, company executives told analysts the layoffs would affect about 90 of the company’s nearly 9,000 workers. The “trivial” impact – as Autodesk described it – was attributed to a need to adjust its international headcount to match economic conditions. Slow markets in southern Europe were used as an example.

In an SEC filing, the company anticipated incurring pre-tax restructuring charges of between $15 million and $20 million. Of that, $12 million to $16 million would be for one-time benefits to laid off employees. It’s not clear where the layoffs will take place.

Besides the staff reduction, the company said it would also consolidate some of its leased facilities. The restructuring is to be completed before April 30, 2014.

According to the (D) Senate, it’s their own fault. They simply aren’t nearly as skilled as the H1Bs that are replacing them.
