BAs Can Use This Tool to Help Guide Their Careers

According to the International Institute of Business Analysis, 2013 is the “Year of Your Career.” That means the association is focusing on providing its members with tools and resources that will help them succeed.

Multiple Choice TestTo support this goal, the IIBA introduced the Business Analysis Competency Assessment in April. It’s designed to evaluate abilities in business analysis based on a standard set of relevant skills. It does this by analyzing answers to a series of questions that are aligned to A Guide to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge.

The Competency Assessment can help answer questions such as:

  • How do my business analysis skills compare to the skills within the profession?
  • How can I improve my job performance?
  • What steps do I need to take to move up the BA career ladder?

There are two assessment levels – Intermediate and Senior – so you can choose the assessment that best fits your level of experience. Even if you’re new to business analysis, or aren’t quite at the Intermediate level yet, you can still take the Intermediate assessment and create a professional development plan to guide you in your career.

Once the assessment is complete, you’ll receive a competency report identifying strengths and weaknesses. If there are areas that need improvement, you’ll also receive a development plan with recommendations and resources such as books, webinars and formal training courses. You’ll have a plan that can point you in the right direction, identifying materials you’ll need, courses to take and areas to study to help improve your skills to take you to the next level in your career.

You’ll find the BA Competency Assessment here.
