Tech Jobs: AWS Hiring in Virginia

Our weekly snapshot of who’s hiring and who’s firing across the IT landscape.

Hiring

MovingAmazon Web Services plans to hire 500 people for its new office in Fairfax County, Va. The jobs will largely include solutions architects and positions in business development, sales and support, an Amazon.com spokeswoman says. The new office was established to support IT engineering and services for AWS’s commercial and government customers. [Dice News]

Layoffs

U.S. Cellular cut 104 positions at six of its Missouri locations earlier this month. Most of the cuts occurred in St. Louis, following Sprint’s acquisition of U.S. Cellular’s customers and spectrum in that region, Chicago, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. [Dice News and Chicago Tribune]

Electronic Arts expects to lay off 65 people from its Redwood City, Calif., location by June 10. EA’s layoffs come soon after the company cut 10 percent of its workforce, representing an estimated 900 workers, last month. [Dice News]

Verizon Communications is expected to lay off 57 workers at its Irvine, Calif., office by June 24. [Dice News]

Comcast is expected to cut 260 workers from its Florida payroll by mid-July. The jobs are expected to largely affect call center staff. [Dice News and Philly.com]
