Tech Professionals Expect Bigger Bonuses This Year

With end-of-the-year bonus payouts around the corner, IT departments are keeping a keen eye on their company’s financial performance. And this year, they’re anticipating a happy holiday season.

More than two-thirds of the tech professionals responding to a Dice survey expect a larger bonus than they received last year, or at least an equal one.

While employees in other departments tend to view their bonus as a reward for individual accomplishment, those in tech consider theirs as being contingent upon their company’s overall performance. One sign: 16 percent of those expecting a larger payout believe their changing companies was a key reason for the increase.

Not everyone in tech gets a bonus. The survey found that the sweet spot for eligibility tends to be after six years. After hitting that level of experience, more than 50 percent of indicated they were bonus eligible.

What’s a bonus? Where do I find one of these companies? After 30 years in the industry, you’d think I’d eventually hit some of these companies…

I’ve never seen an annual bonus in tech. Oh once I got a $20 gift coupon. Better than the jelly of the month club though. Let’s get real.
