Asurion’s Massive IT Hiring Plan: 500 College Grads

Asurion has planted a proverbial “Help Wanted” sign at the Nashville-based cell phone insurer, focusing on adding 500 IT positions. Its hiring target? College grads.

The company is looking for students majoring in computer science, management information systems, engineering, as well as business administration and economics. It plans to hire these recent grads for positions ranging from business analysts to database administrators to server engineers and in IT operations, says Asurion, which formally announced its plans earlier this week.

So far, Asurion has hired more than 70 people from Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University and Vanderbilt.

New hires will spend the first month in training to acclimate them to the company and to focus on business skills that might be outside their field of study. They’re also paired with a mentor, who acts as their resource inside the company.

And although the Nashville Technology Council reported a 17 percent decline in advertised IT job postings in middle Tennessee during the second quarter, officials there say demand for IT talent remains strong and competition keen.

Outstanding! Sounds like someone is finally investing their loyalty in people.I can see the economy for Tennessee growing as I read. Other companies in the United States need to pay close attention.
