Splashtop’s App Lets You Test Drive Windows 8 Metro

Win8 Metro TestbedMicrosoft’s Windows 8 won’t be released for at least several more months, but for those who can’t wait to give it a test drive, there’s Splashtop’s Win8 Metro Testbed.

For a mere $25, the app lets you experience Windows 8 Metro in all its glory on your iPad. Unlike other remote access apps that treat your taps as mouse clicks, Win8 Metro Testbed turns your device into an almost native Windows 8 tablet with full gesture support.

Do you want the app — or will you wait for the real thing? Let us know by posting a comment below.

Why would you want that? Because trying Metro 8 on a PC doesn’t do justice to the OS; Metro prioritizes touch interaction over mouse and keyboard. Microsoft insists that both input methods work just as great (false).

Truth be told, $25 is rather steep considering there’s only a limited number of Metro apps available right now. But if you want to be among the first to have a Win8 tablet (without actually owning one), it’s worth buying sooner rather than later — the price will go up to $50 after its initial promotion. Plus, it might be a good investment: The number of apps in the Windows Store will increase when the OS goes on sale later this year.
