Nexus Prime Exposed (Images, Video & “Proper” Specs)

Nexus PrimeSmartphone and tablet superiority issues aside, there’s surely one thing that Apple does better than Samsung. And that’s keeping a secret. Samsung and Google postponed the Nexus Prime and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich announcement, initially planned for Oct. 11, 2011, out of respect for the late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs.

While a new date hasn’t been announced yet, detailed information has already been leaked. This includes an image, a video and reportedly “proper” device specifications as well as several screenshots of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. All of this has been circulating on the interwebs and we’re bringing it together for your perusal.

The image shown here is courtesy of Digital Life, a Greek website from the looks of it. As far as I can tell from the translated text, the author did not mention where the image originated. However, citing “the alien and the source,” I’m pretty sure this is Google Translate’s fault, he reaffirmed the specifications previously leaked on Boy Genius Report (BGR) — 4.65-inch display, 1,280 x 720 resolution, 1GB RAM, 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor and a five megapixel camera.

The only discrepancy: the size of the on-board memory. Digital Life says it will be of 16GB, and if I understand it correctly, it’s not expandable. BGR, on the other hand, claims that it will be 32GB.

Just how much truth is there in these leaked specs? “They may turn out to be completely and utterly wrong,” GSMArena wrote. The mobile site was tipped by a “Google insider familiar with the next Nexus phone,” and it turns out that the Nexus Prime may come with a more monstrous spec sheet than previously thought. Among others:

  • Samsung’s own chipset with 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor and a dual-core GPU from Imagination
  • 8 megapixel camera with full 1,080p HD video recording
  • LTE-enabled; dual-mode GSM/CDMA radio
Ice Cream Sandwich

For those of you who are curious about what’s coming out of Google’s strategy to unify Android on both smartphones and tablets, you can now check it out for yourself, thanks the leaked screenshots published on TechCrunch.
