HP Said To Mull Replacing Apotheker With Ex-eBay Chief Whitman

Posted In Business

Hewlett-Packard’s board of directors are considering replacing current CEO Léo Apotheker with former eBay chief Meg Whitman.  Sources told Bloomberg that Whitman could serve on an interim basis.

Meanwhile, AllThingsD reports that Whitman has been thinking recently about finding another senior corporate role. Since she lost her bid to become California’s governor, she’s been consulting at venture firm Kleiner Perkins. Whitman supposedly has shown some interest in the HP job, though none of this is confirmed. She’s been on HP’s board since January

HP has struggled since Apotheker took over just 11 months ago. Dropping sales forecasts and shifts in strategy have left many shareholders with doubts about his capabilities. The company’s stock price has dropped 47 percent while he’s occupied the CEO’s office.

Apotheker was the CEO of SAP until he resigned in 2010 after a price increase resulted in disappointing results. He held that position for 10 months.
