FOWA: Pokki Helps You Bring the Web App Experience to the Desktop

How do you launch applications? Do you have buttons at the bottom of your screen, desktop icons, or are you typing the names of applications into Google? Sadly, a huge percentage of people do just that.

One way to get people to see and use your application is to put it right on the desktop. Pokki wants to help developers do just that by offering up a platform to create desktop applications using HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript. No need to launch your browser first, these applications sit on the desktop and run all by themselves.

I interviewed Pokki’s CEO, Adrian Bourke, and asked him to give me a demo.

I launch my “web apps” by opening my browser, selecting the desired URL from my history and clicking. His idea sounds very cool for the very lazy, who do not mind a bazillion short-cuts and all cluttering the desktop.

I can watch TV without the remote – but I don’t. Lazy indeed. This might be a neat idea.
