EnviroTech Services has about 100 employees, and an IT department of one – Vincent A. La Barbera.
In the 11 years La Barbera’s been with the company, EnviroTech has grown from 30 to 100 people, yet still hasn’t increased the size of it’s IT department. It’s kind of lonely for him in that he doesn’t have anyone to lean on internally, but it’s not a problem as he relies heavily on vendors to give him the support he needs.
Greatest thing about being an IT department of one? LA Barbera can move on a dime and pursue his own vision. The worst part: It’s difficult to make an impact on the company strategy, especially when your voice of one is up against other departments that have far more people.
