Interview Question: What kind of Animal Would You Be?

Bill Powell, General Manager of Regional Justice Information Services needs .NET and XML programmers that are savvy with data warehousing. Ultimately he’s looking for people eager to support the criminal justice community and municipal governments with application development and network engineering.

His interviews are standard fare, until he pulls a “Barbara Walters” and asks his interviewees: “If you died tomorrow and came back as an animal other than a human being, what would it be?”

He asks that to see if his interviewees have a big picture and whether they work well with other people. A good answer, he tells me, is to say you want to come back as an eagle. Powell believes that metaphor demonstrates you can soar high and see and manage the world around you.

What would he say if the response was “I don’t plan on coming back at all.” Would that be interpreted as lack of imagination?
