Daily News Byte: U.S. Government Adopts ‘Cloud-First’ Policy

The U.S. announced a structural reform for IT acquisition and
implementation. Beginning in April 2011, new IT initiatives will be measured against a "cloud-first" policy,
which would require administrators to opt for cloud-based solutions when at
all possible. The government spends $80 billion a year across its technological
landscape, and stands to save billions by sharing resources such as e-mail and
file sharing. Of course it also faces greater risks to vital and sensitive data
that’s not stored on its own platforms. [US
